BONUS: FOOD FOR THE BRAIN

I will try to bring bonus information on various health tips. This time I will be talking about the brain.

Our brain is a vital organ which needs to be taken care of regularly for excellent performance. I personally think if the brain is well maintained and we use it effectively a lot of problems in life can be solved.

A friend of mine told me of a story of how some college student was getting bad grades due to drinking water that contained lead. His professor told him to stop taking tap water which contained lead, and start boiling or filtering water. When he started boiling water there was a gradual improvement in his grades. His grades improved from D's to B's and finally the student became an A student.

The lead in the water was making his brain less efficient. Therefore, it is important to find out which food is good or bad for the brain

EAST AFRICAN DISH: MATOOKE

East African Food:

One of my favorite dishes from East Africa is matooke. It goes very well with beans, ground nut sauce or fish. In my household we used to eat it with cabbage, greens and pineapple (on the side as a dessert}. The pineapples were so succulent. Recently, I made it with my sister and it came out pretty good.

I personally recommend this dish especially if one is watching their health. Take it with beans, cabbages, green leafy vegetables and ground nut sauce for a healthy meal.

The chicken in the image was baked, which is a better alternative to frying the chicken.

ALTERNATIVE TO RED MEAT: SEASONED GROUND TURKEY

Ingredients
  • Tomato paste
  • Seasoned salt
  • Curry
  • Black pepper
  • Ground Turkey
  • Onions
  • Vegetables, like sweat peas, corn, diced carrots or brocoli
A few years ago my sister introduced me to ground turkey. At the time we used to keep it simple, but over the last couple of years the dish has evolved.
  • The first step is to fry onions separately in a pan, you can season the onions with salt, curry and black-pepper. Fry until the onions brown.
  • Fry the ground turkey in the same pan with the onions
  • Add vegetables to the pan and some more oil
  • Add tomato paste to the mix
When cooking always test the food to make sure the ingredients are added in the right proportions.

This dish goes well with smoked rice, pasta and chapatis.



This dish is an alternative to red meat which is detrimental to the heart and has more fatty acids.

Weight Loss Tips




The best way for weight loss, is the natural route. Mainly because natural items do not have adverse effects on your precious body.

Try avoiding or eliminating as many processed and unhealthy foods from it as you can. This means no fast or junk food, foods that contain preservatives and foods that are high in sugar or fat. Of course the occasional treat is allowed and depriving yourself completely is not a good idea as this is likely to lead to binge eating the foods that you are not allowed but eating them often is a sure fire way to gain weight rather than lose weight build muscle.

Incorporate protein and carbohydrate rich food in your diet. The foods that you should try and incorporate into your diet where possible are wholesome foods that are high in protein and carbohydrates such as chicken, plan proteins and turkey along with fish, eggs and brown rice and pasta. The first meal of the day should contain a high content of carbohydrate to keep your energy levels stable throughout the day and this can help to make sure that you have enough energy in order to lose weight build muscle.

Concentrate a bit on Cardio exercises in your daily routine. This could be as simple as riding a bike or walking and jogging. These are very effective forms of Cardio exercises and can also make the world of difference to whether or not you gain weight or lose weight build muscle. The exercises that you participate in should not be too taxing and overdoing it could cause you to actually put on weight due to extreme muscle growth as it is a well-known fact that muscle weighs more than fat. This Cardio exercise should not really be done on a regular basis so every now and again is fine but you will find that when you perform this exercise your metabolism is boosted meaning that you can lose weight build muscle. Try your hand at weight lifting.
